Test/Service Engineer – at rapidly growing Santa Barbara based technology company

Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp. (PSC) develops award winning microscopy and chemical analysis tools used for scientific research and development and has pioneered the field of optical photothermal IR spectroscopy (O-PTIR). Our rapidly growing scientific instrumentation company is looking for a hardworking and detail-oriented Test/Service Engineer to join our team. This is a full-time position, in our downtown Santa Barbara facility.

This opportunity requires an individual who is self-motivated, passionate about technology, works well in a diverse team environment and is interested in creating an outstanding customer experience. The candidate must have a strong work ethic and a willingness to accept responsibility. This position will primarily work within the Test and Service group to perform instrument alignment, test and help ship our products to the end users, to provide customer support, install new and service existing instruments. In this role up to 50% travel time is expected.

Summary of duties
Duties of the position include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Infrared and visible laser alignment and perform specification testing
  • Operate optical photothermal infrared (OPTIR) and Raman microscopes to confirm system function and performance
  • Troubleshoot systems electronically and mechanically during testing, or during onsite customer service visits
  • Develop and advance internal test procedures and documentation for the qualification of production systems before shipment
  • Interface with Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp customers, application scientists and research and development department for product development and customer support
  • Provide customer support via email and telephone, maintaining high level of customers’ loyalty
  • Travel to customer sites for installations, service or customer training
  • Up to 50% domestic and international travel required

Qualifications
A successful candidate will have:

  • BS in chemistry, engineering, physics, material science, or equivalent experience
  • Three or more years’ experience working with at least one or more techniques for chemical characterization (fluorescence microscopy, Raman, FTIR, NanoIR, TERS, O-PTIR etc.)
  • Proficiency in alignment, testing and installation of lasers and/or optical components
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical design aptitude
  • Previous customer interaction experience
  • Detail oriented and self-starter attitude
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced customer-focused team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
